Smile Friday: loving my new Tiffany pearl earrings from Doug.
Last night, I came home to a present and a card. This was a “just because” gift. The kind that throw you off guard. The card from Doug said he always wanted to surprise me and make me feel like the princess that I was.
I opened the gift and saw the familiar Tiffany blue. When I saw the
pearl earrings inside I smiled.
This isn’t about getting something expensive. Or expecting nice gifts. It’s about the love in your life always keeping you on your toes. A text. A card. A box of chocolates. A smile. A dinner waiting for your someone. A movie night. Watching that bulls game when the real housewives is on- because he wants to. And hey even Tiffany! All are ways to tell someone that they are special.
Even after 7 years Doug makes me feel important. He listens to me and stands by my side. He is the best friend I could ever have. Love him to pieces.
Here it is: the new item on my gotta have for Ireland list: Longchamp Le Pliage backpack.
How do we feel about this? I think it would be perfect for travel and still hip right? The youths are crazy about backpacks right now. It’s a win win.
This came up while shopping. You know the you may also like photos that online shops have. Something’s are great (Nordstrom) and some bizarre (Amazon). However Saks is always dead on for me. I feel like there is someone on the other side of that website that is like “oh Lindsay is going to Ireland , in need of a back pack and in her mid twenties.”
So a backpack among other outfits inspired by the Middleton sisters will be purchased.
This is a post.
What I’m eating: lunch time edition.
Since finding out I have celiac disease there has been an increase in my rice consumption.
I’ve always liked rice but now I love it especially paired with a chicken kabob. My favorite has to be from Sayat Nova which is an Armenian restaurant a block south of Michigan Ave and on Ohio Street. It all melts in your mouth. Seriously I’m in love.
If you are a fan of Armenian food this is your place! And if you have celiac make sure to ask for plain rice. (Their regular mix has gluten in it.)
So a while back Doug’s family had decided to go to Las Vegas to celebrate his sister’s 21st birthday along with Doug’s 26th. I was thrilled! Who doesn’t love a trip to Las Vegas?
For some reason or another I have been consumed with other trips planned: a girlfriend trip to Ireland my sister’s wedding in Playa Del Carmen among other things that I sort of forgot. We have been so lucky with traveling lately- this is hardly our norm.
On Sunday, Doug’s sister texted me 21 days! I wrote back a wihoo and so excited! I then said to myself shiiit as I realized I was eating a (gluten free) ordered pepperoni pizza with…..ranch! I am not bikini ready. The photo above is of Cozumel in November-which I exercised and ate well for.
This trip I have not prepared for. Week day meals have been a lot of take out followed by a not as intense work out due to work and ummm the weather! I’m cold man!
Any way, now it’s 19 days (small scream) to hang in my swimming suit at a cabana like it ain’t no thang.
Here is my oh shit get fit routine for the next 19 days:
- running- tone that body. Going for 15 miles a week these last few weeks. ( low mileage because I need more time for lifting)
- abbs- (I know you’re in there! ) obliques upper & lower- every other workout.
- lower body- squats, dead lifts, plié squats & one legged squats (no weight)
- upper body (w/ band)- bicep curls, tricep kick backs, shoulder raises, upright row
- yoga moves: warrior poses, dolphin, downward dog
-plyometrics: jump rope, squat jumps, I’m a star jumps & slide jumps
These will be my standard exercises. I will throw in other poses/ lifts to get it right get it tight. I will also eat well and as always get a spray tan. Because only Madonna can pull off the pale but fit look.
The problem with trying to practice yoga at home: Rufio.
He thinks savasana is a time to lay on me, wave a toy in my face and lay all of his toys around me.
This is what trying to get a workout during a polar vortex has come down to- trying to coordinate a side by side downward dog.
One of my favorite poses in yoga: crow pose.
Throwback Thursday: Into the jungle in Tulum!
Cannot wait to go back to Mexico this summer and watch my sister get married!
I have some exciting news! I am going to Dublin with two of my college girlfriends this summer! I am so excited!
One of my girlfriends (Cat) is almost 100% Irish. Since I met Cat freshman year of college and heard about her family Kendra and I have been saying we are going to visit them in Dublin- sort of wishful thinking as poor college students.
When I got a call from Cat a few weeks ago asking if I wanted to go to Dublin of course I said yes. This is an eight year discussion we have had where I said yes and she said yes and that was it. Until now. We finally did it!
Please fill me in on Dublin suggestions. Where to go? What to see? Where to stay?
Hopefully this post may give gumption to someone who has been talking about doing something for years! Go for it!
Easy dinner- pasta edition!
Last night I made what was my easiest and most delicious pasta recipe! This is the first time I have used gluten free noodles and it was still amazing!
-1/4 cup of white wine
-1/4 cup of olive oil
-1 tbsp minced garlic
-1 tbsp minced onions
-5 grape tomatoes
-1 bag of fresh spinach
- two servings of pasta ( I used trader joes gluten free brown rice pasta)
-1/2 lb of fresh shrimp
Sauté olive oil, garlic and shrimp for a few minutes, adding in juice of one lemon and wine. Next, add in spinach letting it cook down, then adding in shrimp & tomatoes. (Only cook shrimp for a few minutes as it can get tough. )
Cook noodles at the same time, following package instructions. Add noodles in with shrimp sauce and serve!
Using the minimum trick: treadmill edition
Let me preface this post by telling you how much (like many others) I loathe treadmill running. One mile on a treadmill feels like five to me outside. It’s brutal!
However, treadmill running is a must for us runners who take our craft indoors during the winter months.
The motions of running on a treadmill are so important to keep. Muscle memory is no joke. In order to keep those running muscles in tuned sometimes the treadmill is what you have to do.
So here’s my secret: mind games. Seriously. This my trick to getting through time on a treadmill! I always tell myself a minimum. I’ll make a three mile minimum and once I reach that I’ll try to go for four or five.
Minimums are my key to getting in a good workout. At least I know that no matter what I will get in my “minimum”. I also do this with workout days during the week. For example if my minimum is four days and I skip Monday and Tuesday but worked out Sunday I know that I need three more days.
If you don’t give yourself an out you’re less likely to fail!
